I don't consider myself a particularly creative photographer; a huge percentage of my frames are front lit, and I prioritize field marks over artistic effect, especially for birds (I think that's an outflow of my overarching birding background). Anyway, when this sunset opportunity presented, I knew I wanted to do something different. My wife and I had to stay in the car because there were lots of potentially-dangerous hippos cruising around, but we positioned the vehicle so that I could capture this rim lit image out the passenger side window. It is probably my favorite image of the entire trip, bird photos included!
