Semipalmated Sandpiper

My birding background makes me keen to capture images of species other photographers ignore or overlook, so I was really happy with this result from Alabama in April. I noticed the tide was coming in over a raised sandbar, so I laid down in the Gulf surf and waited for this little guy to run over the crest. The lighter lower half of the frame is a thin layer of water on the sandbar, and the darker upper half is the bay in the distance. It was really nice to shoot on an undeveloped stretch of sand, and I was able to use with a wider crop to highlight the contrasting waters and generate this small-in-frame view.
