Western Sandpiper
This is the same individual as in the previous frame but at closer range. I stopped down from f/5.6 to f/7.1 as he approached (and dialed up the ISO from 800 to 1250 to maintain the 1/4000 shutter), but it wasn't enough to get his entire body and foot in focus with his body angled slightly away from me. I think the shot still works, our attention going straight to his face, and I like the pensive downward gaze he displays once we arrive at that focal point. These guys spend so much time with their faces in the mud that I was just happy to get him with a raised head!
