Eared Grebe
I'm a big fan of small-in-frame shots, but they're difficult to execute in my developed Bay Area surrounds because buildings, boats, bridges, roads, wires, towers, and people always seem to work their way into wide frames. I encountered this individual as I explored a deserted part of the harbor in my inflatable kayak, and a rogue puff of wind added some nice texture to the water as I hit the shutter on this otherwise still morning. I really liked how the namesake golden ear pops against the blue.
