Eared Grebe

This bird is 99,5% finished his breeding plumage molt; the tiny bit of white on the chin is all that remains of his white winter plumage. I'd not photographed this species in this black breeding garb before this morning, so I was happy this individual let me get close enough for this headshot. The crop is a bit on the heavy side, but I think the detail on the golden ear held up fairly well.
