Bushtit

Incredibly, this is not a set-up! No food or audio was used to lure the subject, and the perch was completely fortuitous. How'd it happen? Well, I saw a family group of ~20 birds picking its way through a low hedgerow. There was a break in the middle where I thought they might emerge, so I positioned myself there and waited. My plan worked, and I had split-second opportunity at this female -- sexed by the yellow eye, males' are black -- before she flitted across the opening and disappeared into another shrub. I see Bushtits in my apartment complex all the time, but this is the first decent photo I've managed of the tiny target. For perspective, the bird's body is about the size of a golfball! They move really fast and usually stay in tangles, so I'm really happy with this result!
