Sanderling

My best image of this species to date! These guys don't have much going on in the plumage/color department - especially in this winter plumage - so it's really incumbent on the photographer to make the subject pop. Getting low usually does the trick, and I liked how the out-of-focus waves/surf blended to isolated the tiny bird. The direct eye contact is nice, but I think the unsolicited peep strengthens the connection between subject and viewer.
