Black-crowned Night-Heron

With earthen cliffs serving as a distant backdrop, I couldn't resist snapping this frame as I floated by this guy in my inflatable kayak (he was standing on a rock in the Pillar Point Harbor). He's a bit drab, but I knew the eye and lores would pop against the surrounding gold, tan, and brown. This is an example where the right light and background can really make an ordinary bird crack!
