Black Skimmer - with needlefish

The array of prey these birds catch is incredible. In the course of this morning, I saw adults returning to the nesting colony with killie minnows, silversides, pipefish, baby menhaden, and needlefish (shown here). Several other birds were jealous of this sizable catch, so this adult had to keep moving to avoid being robbed. He/she eventually found his/her two chicks and spent the following 15 minutes pulverizing the catch so the hungry young could swallow it.
