Northern Fulmar (dark phase)

Pelagic photography is really challenging for a number of reasons. The birds move really fast, the boat is pitching all over the place, and the light is usually steep at the midday point when we reach the deepest and most productive waters. This day was fortunately calmer than most, and some high-altitude clouds dampened the late-morning light to a perfect degree. This curious individual came unusually close (without the aid of chum), and I was able to snag a sharp frame as he arced higher over the stern of our craft. Gotta love the full underside bank view - tiny feet included!
