African Oystercatcher

I have similar shots of oystercatchers from 4 different continents; no matter where on Earth one goes, these birds prefer rocky shorelines. This bird (and its mate, not pictured) was very wary, and it took multiple scrambles across slick rocks to get into position for this shot. There are several species of black oystercatcher, but the combination short beak, pink legs, and puffy yellow eye ring help to distinguish this from others. Besides, the ranges are generally discrete, this the only black variety in Africa.
