The opportunity to photograph this range-restricted species presented when this individual unexpected flushed off the front bumper of our rental camper as I returned from the restroom! It scared the hell out of me, but I got myself together, reached into the truck, grabbed my rig, and cracked off a few frames while the bird perched on this eye-level branch ten feet away from me. I couldn't believe my luck; the bird was so trusting. He flew back onto the car a few seconds after I captured this frame, and I decided to shoo him off when he started picking at the rubber around the passenger side door. Didn't want to lose that security deposit. Most of my photography is of the planned variety, so it was really sweet to get this impromptu/free frame without an ounce of premeditation!
