Many-striped Canastero
This Andean furnarid inhabits high-elevation grasslands and páramo from Northern Colombia to Central Peru. The species is common in Los Nevados National Park in Colombia's Central Andes, this individual emerging at 13,000 feet while I was playing tape for the closely-related and similar-sounding White-chinned Thistletail. Most tropical photography is done at established feeder arrays, so it felt really good to capture this frame in-habitat and under more natural circumstances. The clear background is a páramo hillside on the other side of the wide valley where I was shooting.
