Tourmaline Sunangel
This striking hummer inhabits the Colombian and Ecuadorian Andes between 6,600 and 10,500 feet (2000 - 3200 meters) and often spreads its wings after perching, presumably in a defensive display. I did my best to capture that trademark pose but wasn't quite fast enough to get it. The pink gorget was a nice consolation, almost enough to make me forget about the boring perch! Getting direct eye-contact with both eyes is always a nice bonus.
