When I saw this light-colored bird picking its way along dark coastal rocks, I thought that the contrast would help me create a dramatic image. What I didn't anticipate was how the specular highlights in the background would imbue the frame with a magical quality. It's almost as though the bird is standing in front of a mountain range with the moon in the sky at top left. Some photographers have an eye for creating effects like this, but it was completely fortuitous in this instance. I hope this shot inspires me to use light in different ways.
