Puna Ground-Tyrant
I'm usually a stickler for eye contact with my subjects, but I think this frame works even with the bird's gaze is oriented elsewhere. There aren't many good shots of this high-elevation specialist-- it's restricted to Puna habitats in the Peruvian, Bolivian, Chilean, and Argentinian Andes -- so that helped swing this image into the keeper pile.
Lauca National Park, Arica and Parinacota, Chile, 12/19/21
Canon 600mm f/4 IS II + 1.4x III on EOS R5
1/4000 at f/5.6, ISO 400
***Shot was underexposed by a full stop, likely because I dropped the ISO from 800 by mistake. It's amazing how the digital files can be pushed around after the fact to correct such operator error.
